Esther de Waal
History and Provenance
Esther de Waal is a writer and scholar whose major interests are the fields of the Benedictine and Celtic traditions. She studied and taught history at Cambridge University before moving to Canterbury.
The archive was deposited at Gladstone’s Library by Esther and her son Peter in 2014. A further deposit was made in December 2018 and will be catalogued by 2021.

Arrangement and Description
The collection consists mainly of research notes and drafts of speeches and essays, with some typed memoranda and correspondence pertaining to publications and speaking appearances. The archive was arranged by de Waal and has been kept in its original arrangement and order.
